For Windows Apporto Virtual Desktop, users are not permitted to install their own software on the the virtual desktop.  However, a persistent virtual desktop license can be assigned to you from the Tech Desk that has administrative rights to install your own software. The persistent virtual desktop retains the changes you make on the system until you return it.  To make a request for access to the Persistent Windows Virtual Desktop, please file a ticket for the Tech Desk (login with SUnetID) with the following details:

  1. Course: Please specify the Stanford course that requires the use of a persistent virtual desktop.*
  2. Purpose of Usage: Please briefly describe the main reason and project that requires the use of a persistent virtual desktop. This will help us prioritize requests during high demand periods.
  3. Expected Duration of Usage:
    • Start Date: Please indicate the date you'd like to begin using the virtual desktop.
    • End Date: The expected date by which you anticipate completing your tasks and returning the license.
  4. Any other relevant information: Any additional details that can help us understand or accommodate your request better.

*Note: This is a limited service, available based on specific use cases and availability. Priority is given to student coursework. For research, users should contact their department’s IT support for the necessary resources.
