Laptop Renewals

Given the limited stock of computers, laptop renewals require proof that your current device is under repair and that a replacement is being purchased or shipped.

Chromebook Renewals

All Chromebooks are eligible for a five week loan. This equipment does not require a broken machine to reserve, but they are typically not eligible for renewal. 

If you are using the machine as a computer replacement while your machine is being repaired or you are purchasing a new one, please follow the MacBook Air Renewals process below.

MacBook Air & Dell Renewals

To renew your loaner laptop at the end of the five-week period: 

  1. Submit a Ticket to the Tech Desk
  2. Attach Any of the Forms of Documentation

Proof of Eligibility

Examples of Acceptable Documentation:Click to Expand 
  1. Invoice from the Cardinal Tech Center/Repair Center
  1. Appointment confirmation to repair a laptop at an Apple Store
  1. Order confirmation for a new laptop with an estimated delivery date
  1. Completed Opportunity Fund application
  1. Emails with the Opportunity Fund or Financial Aid Office

Invalid Proof of Eligibility 

Examples of Unacceptable Documentation:Click to Expand
  1. Text messages between a student and an unverified repair shop. 

    We do not accept text messages from anyone for renewals.

  1. Emails between students and unverified repair centers. This includes emails with any Stanford affiliate.
  1. Product page for an Apple MacBook Air. 


    Since it does not show proof of purchase, it does not serve as acceptable documentation.

  1. Message from a student explaining their issue installing Microsoft Office on their new device. 


    Renewal denied because student has a functional device.

Can't Provide Documentation?

You may need to return the MacBook Air or Dell laptop at the end of the initial loan period. If you need computer access for coursework, please use the Computer Cluster machines in your residence or central study spaces—such as the Hub and Lathrop 24-Hour Space.
